The tiles in the marketplace glowed in the noontime sun and Teiganese of all ages could be found in the shadiest areas, trying to escape the heat. it really was an excellent day for a celebration- many families were set up for picnics in the meadow just to the east.
Among the stalls, young children played in the way of merchants, clients, and passersby alike. Their giggles punctuated the strong babble of voices, and sometime a loud yell could be heard and they chased eachother through the throngs of Indigo citizens and visitors.
Indigo Day was a special a special occassion, so the marketplace was decorated gaily in the richest of colours. The finest musicians were out sharing their music with the town- absolutely free of charge. One of the groups was accompanied by a pretty sparrow, whose voice was lovelier than most elegantly crafted flute. She was later joined by a young tom cat, and the their duet was a woven masterpiece to the ears of anyone who heard.
Pastry merchants were giving away free tarts and miniature cakes. As such, the children crowded there most. Artists were painting the faces of little Teiganese girls and boys, who seemed to be getting the most of this festival.
Enrapt in the joyous festivities, no one would think much of a bit of a scuffle here and there. There were bound to be arguments, even on a festival day.
Gradually people became aware of a ripple of panic and terror, sweeping through the bright street.
Not far away, a hysteric young fox was being pried from the limp body of magestic tiger. Crimsoned oozed into a viscous puddle beside Zoan-Rai.His robe became darkened, and his heavy lids would never open again. His round black ears drooped by his head. He looked far more sad and far older, and more tired than he had when he was standing, living.
Around him, the round-up began. This closest standersby would be rounded up. They would later be brought to the late Zoan-Rai's mansion, where they would be questioned by his guards, who as faithful as they were, would be determined to reach the bottom of this.
