The original shifting Teiganese came from another world. However, they stumbled into Teigan, and located a chest of totem. Each who took a totem took on the properties of the creature. Each spread this power through the people o this world, Teigan, and those people have become the civilizations they are today.
Teiganese can take on many form, but only one animal per Teiganese. Hybrids are rare, and often unstable or infertile. Though this is not yet common knowledge, it is unusual to take a mate outside one's species. These many varieties are mentioed in the maps sections, as well as well they are found.
Each Teiganese is able to shift fully in the the animal whose spirit is part of theirs. They each have physical resemblances to their animal, those it many differ from one to a another withing a species. For example, one gazelle may have horn in their demi human form, and another may have just marking along their skin, or a gazelle tail. Their also tend to take on skills, agile monkeys, swift cheetahs, healing tears of a phoenix, etc.
