Pauline gasped. "The closet! Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...)'s been horrified of closets ever since he was a baby rabbit!" She sighed. "He's also afraid of when it's too dark, when it's too bright, other rabbits, bigger rabbits, cats, wolves, too much dust, too much cleanliness, and tofu." She frowned at Lorne. "Be more careful, he's very delicate." But then she looked around in horror. "Lorne... Is this your bedroom...?" she said slowly, looking at her feet which were most firmly in the room.

Lorne lbinked, surprised at the rather length list of phobias. "I-I'll be more careful," he agreed. "I won't need to stick him in the closet again, so I'm sure it'll be fine.
Lorne shook his head. "Only for the night. My usual room is in the Red Corridor, adjacent to Zoan-Rai's. Just in case he needs me at night too." He sighed. "Sometimes we'd just talk all night. He always appeared collected and serene, but he had his own worries. Sometimes it was just a glass of water he needed." He realized there would be none of that anymore. His attending duties obviously weren't needed tonight. He looked down at his feet. "Are you fine by yourself?" he asked Pauline.

Pauline took a cue and lied through her teeth. "Why, no I have the most horrible nightmares all night and if I don't have someone to talk to, why I just wake up in a cold sweat!" She sighed. "I tell you, Lorne, I am horribly upset at the idea to spending all night in that cold, dark room all alone with no one but the dust to talk to so let me be a nuisance and bother you al;l night long, hmm?" She sat crosslegged on the floor. "So how was your interrogation, mine was pretty dull, that cockatoo looks familiar though, doesn't he?" She had forgotten how she had once collapsed upon the very same cockatoo, but she had often annoyed the guards with her continual antics since she had met Lorne for the first time. "Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) didn't like him." she said sagely.

The fox smiled, glad that she stayed. He was surprised though; after all they were a lady and a man. In the same room at night. Nonetheless, Lorne sat too, across from the hyena. "I wasn't too fond of him either. I don't think he really knew me, but I've seen him around. I'm sure he didn't take to my story. And he seemed to have a terrible cold. Poor fellow, having to deal with us when he should be in bed." "I think you'll get out of this safe Pauilne, and Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) too. I'm not so sure about myself." Lorne smiled though, because he knew that she deserved her freedom.

Pauline frowned. "If you are going to be punished for it, I shall have to run away and get me to a *insert Teiganese equivalent of nunnery* because I will surely die of boredom if you're dead." She looked puzzled. "Really? He seemed fine when he interrogated me." Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) crawled onto her lap as she said so and settled down. "Anyway, I thought his beak was crooked. If I were him, I wouldn't trust myself." She nodded. "Anyway, I'm sure you'll get off, Lorne. No one loved Zoan-Rai more than you out of all the people working here. You were allllways with him! And trust me, I know, I'll be buggered if I wasn't half upset at him for hogging you all to himself!" She grinned. "But..." Pausing, she patted Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...). "I don't see why any of those people would want to kill him. They don't seem that murderous at all. And if one of them is, what can we do about it? What if they decide to off someone else, like Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...)?"

Lorne hoped his face wasn't turning more red. He hadn't realized the hyena had been jealous of his charge. "It's easier to get Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) away from here than most of the rest of us," he reassured her. "As...big...as he is, He's still concealable," he pointed out.

Pauline nodded. "That's true, but he simply refuses to go anywhere without me, so I'd have to bring him out, poor dear. He's stuck here as long as I am." She patted him fondly and he itched at his nightcap. "Lorne, you're red as a tomato."

Lorne actually pitied Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...). He didn't seem very happy with the nightcap, he thought. Lorne nodded. "I suppose that'd be a problem, wouldn't it?" Lorne's ears fell bashfullly, and he was sure his face must have become even more red. "R-really?" he stuttered. "Well," he begin, hoping to avert the conversation, "It's too bad all the balconies are locked off. It'd be a nice night, I'm sure."

Pauline nodded. "Yeah, really." Lorne turning red was certainly none of her business, she supposed, but as a Lady in a Gentleman's room, if she could not leave, she could at least watch to make sure he didn't get any Funny Ideas. Or so said her mother, professional lady and amateur Hyena. "And if you want I could try to use Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) to knock the door down. " she said cheerfully. "He's actually not a bad battering ram if you throw him hard enough."

"Wouldn't that hurt him a bit?" Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) may have be fat....but he surely had nerves and bone beneath it all, right? He was not fond of the donre, but he wouldn't want to be thrown at a locked glass door. "Maybe. We could fiddle with the lock, but they may have used magic as well."

Rill woke in his room, sitting straight up. He did not remember falling asleep in this room. He looked around frantically, but it was dark. He couldn't see anyone. How did he get here? Then the events leading up to his awakening rushed into his mind. Where was he? Somewhere in the mansion, he was sure, but he could see nobody else in the room. Elu! Where was she and where had she been taken?! "Elu...? Anyone...?" Rill said quietly to the smothering dark. Then he noticed the window, shades drawn, on the far side of the room. That would give him enough light to see whats going on.
He crossed the room and opened the shades, light pouring in, pushing back the darkness. The door to the balcony was locked, though it was a beautiful night, stars shining brightly against the dark carpet that was the sky. He looked around and saw the elegantly carved door on the other side of the room, closer to the bed on which he had woken. He had to find where he was, find Elu, then he wanted to leave. He wanted to be free of this place, but not before he proved his and Elu's innocence. He left the room quietly, making a little noise as possible, if he had been imprisoned, there may be guards nearby. He was suspect after all...
He walked out into the hall and looked around. There were doors down a long way to the right, but the hallway stopped and went down a wide staircase to the left. Next to the downward stair was a smaller stair that went upwards... Being in proper society, the women would probably be down the hallway a bit... That would be where Elu would be. He started to walk quietly down the hall, then jogged. Pain broke out into his foot and shot up his leg. He cursed under his breath and began to limp quickly and, thanks to the carpet, quietly down the hall.

Pauline shook her head. "Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...)'s got a skull of steel." she assured Lorne proudly. Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) nodded. "And I promised to only use him when the glass looks thin enough." She looked firm about this rule. "I was never much for lock-fiddling. It feels so much more dishonest. In fact, wouldn't it look suspicious if you were caught trying to open the balcony door anyway?" she asked. "Practically incriminating, that. if I caught you doing it, well I would think you were making a run for it. Especially if I was a cockatoo with a bad hairstyle."

By then, Elu had curled up into a ball, wings draped over herself. However, she thought she heard something in the hall, and quickly unfurled, tucking her elegant wings against her back. She opened her door cautiously. Maybe it was the murderer- she couldn't be too careful. "Rill?" she whispered, thinking the figure seemed very much like the beautiful eagle. "Is that you?" she inquired eagerly, her face flushed with excitement.
"Oh," Lorne murmured. "I hadn't thought of that. But I suppose your right. But isn't the broken glass equally suspicious?" he reasoned. "Either way we're trying to get out..." He sighed. What a perplexing situation.

Pauline looked upset. "Yes, that's true." she said thoughtfully. "Well, we could just stay in here. Do you think we're being watched? By guards? Would they get us a sandwich?" She looked hopeful. "With a pickle?" Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) perked up at this. "Things always seem better if there's a pickle." she concluded.

"Maybe. I used to get Zoan sadwiches," Lorne mused. "Everything is better with a pickle." The fox paused. "Uh....want me to try?"
