Rill, limping slightly more heavily now, was about 20 doors down from his, when something caught his eye. It was a key. Just laying there on the ground, begging to be picked up. He bent over and picked up the key, but as he stood up, his foot hit the base of a table and a vase fell over and rolled to the floor. He caught it before it his, but not without the sound of the ceramic on wood. He quickly put the vase back and continued walking, putting the key in his pocket. Then he heard his name. "Is that you?" He heard. It was Elu's voice! He looked for the source and saw a door, barely open, with a face peering cautiosly out. His heart leapt out of his body with joy. Everything was going to be okay now. He hobbled over to the smaller bird and opened the door, giving her a hug.
"Are you okay?" Rill asked. "Why are we here? How did we get here?"

Pauline shrugged. "Let me try, first?" she asked. She kicked the wall. "If there are any gurads here, we want a sandwich!" she called. There was a muttered curse that sounded cockatoolike, but whether he had been listening in or was actually doing something different outside the room could not be said. However, it did not sound like they were going to get a sandwich in that manner. "Your turn." she said to Lorne, flopping back onto the floor.

Lan Mei tossed in her bed. She couldn't get to sleep at all. She felt guilty about going right to bed without checking on Master Shou, but... He wasn't her responsibility, gosh darn it! She reasoned with herself. She shouldn't lose sleep over this. This was the nicest room she ahd ever had and no one was here to make her do any maiding, so she shouldn't force herself to work unnecessarily. She smiled,relieved...
And woke up a minute later. Using a word that polite maids like herself did not normally use, she got up, tied her hair back messily, and swore just to peek in on Master Shou. She paused in the hallway though, unsure of which room was his. Afraid to knock or call out in case of waking someone, she merely stayed in the hall, wandering uncertainly.

"Oh, Rill," she whispered joyfully, throwing her arms around the eagle. "It is you!" She rested her head against his chest before leading him into the room, closed the door behind him. "I'm fine, but I'm not so sure about you. Sit down won't you? I told you not to walk on the foot of yours!" In her anxiety, she was far more talkative than normal. And Rill was different than others. "These rooms are where we're spending the night. They couldn't convict any one suspect, so they're keeping us all here for the night. You were out cold when they brought us up here. You sleep very soundly," she informed him, wrapping her arms around him again. "So glad to see you again."

The fox nodded, stifling a laugh. The hyena was often such a straightforward girl. Never a dull moment! He opened to door slowly. "Detective sir? Is that you?" Lorne steped outside the room. "Do you suppose it's possible to recieve a sandwich? With a pickle on the side as well?"

The cockatoo grumbled. "Yes, I suppose, but I came here to warn you to talk more quietly! We could hear the rodent screaming from down the hall." he growled. Stalking off to the kitchen, two younger guards came shortly later with two large sandwiches and pickles. There was ketchup, but it looked suspicious. "Now geroff ter bed." said the first guard and left the sandwiches there.
Pauline picked up a sandwich and a pickle, but decided against the ketchup. "Well," she said, lifting hr sandwich at Lorne, "Cheers, then!"

"I'm really happy to see you again, too," Rill said softly, holding her close. He let go and looked around the room, expecting something a little different than his own, but noticed that they were exactly the same. "I wonder if we can get out of here..." Rill muttered to himself, but loudly enough for Elu to hear it. He tried to hobble to the chair in the corner of the room, but as he put pressure on his foot, he collapsed onto it, but held himself up by grabbing the chest-of-drawers by the wall. He helped himself to the chair and sat down, thinking about escape. His foot wouldn't affect his flying, but he wouldnt be able to walk if he had to... "What do you think?" Rill asked Elu.

Elu glared at him, rushing to his side. "Do be careful!" She sighed, gazing wistfully out into the starlit night. "...Maybe just for a midnight flight?" Elu glanced back at the eagle. "If we go for good, they'll immediately think we murdered Lord Zoan." She wandered over towards the door, crouching so the lock was at eye level. "What is your magic?" The kestrel inquired, inspecting the lock held in her delicate hands.

"Why do you ask?" Rill asked, surprised. "I mean, why the sudden interest?" He shifted in his seat, getting more comfortable. He let out a short sigh. "Its more of a passive thing...not something I really do by myself. I can fly for long distances, but that's hardly magic. No, mine is the ability to protect..." He closed his eyes, drinking in the soft moonlight pouring in from the balcony. I just want to fly... He thought sadly.

Elu smiled softly. "I'd actually wondered if you might be able to break a spell if the was one here. It's a reallly simple one, though. Any Teiganese who tried could get through this," she said, surprised. She reached under her hair to the nape of her neck. Deep blue-purple locks of hair fell as she removed the pin that held them hidden away. After a short while she heard a click and the padlock fell loose. But there was another lock, with no keyhole. This was the one with the spell and breaking the spell would reveal the keyhole, which unknown to her, would need a special key. The key would probably even break the spell. "I don't think I can get through this one, Rill..." It was a little more complicated than she thought

"Mnh. My apologies. I suppose I shouldn't attempt to lock Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...) in the closet anymore." Lorne murmured his thanks before returning to Pauline, door swinging shut behind him.
"He is in a rather foul mood, eh?" The fox smiled though, "Cheers!" He took a bite, but realized there was no food for Wil-BURRRRRH (gnh...). He pulled some cheese from his sandwich, since it was probably the least healthy, and therefore more to the donre's preference. He offered it, forgetting to worry about his fingers getting bitten off.

Mean Bird Guy flicked matches idly onto the carpet, watching little jack stamp them out. Finally fed up with this game, he pulled one last match and through it directly at jack's head. In a second jack was invisible and back again, on Mean Bird Guy's shoulder. "Why does master treat me so? " Jack said with mock woe. "Because you smell like an old lady's foot, Jack. No, jay-kay I love you." He ruffled jack's fur, "any chance of you being able to rustle me up some Smokes?" Jack smiled his little smile, and his eyes glowed blue as he slid out the door.

"Why not? Is there something blocking magic or something like that? Do we even really need magic?" Rill pulled out the key he had found in the hall. "I found this, but I don't know what it goes to... And even if it does go to this, dont you think that our leaving might be a little suspicious?" Rill got up, hobbled over to the door and put the key in the hole. He turned it and the door opened. Rill looked out at the night sky and then closed the door once more. "I don't think now is the time to be escaping... Lets wait until tomorrow to see whats going to happen, and if something happens tonight, we can leave at any time. How does that sound?" He asked, looking into her beautiful, sparkling eyes.

Elu nodded reluctantly- the diamond scattered sky called out to her, to let's it's dark embrace keep her aloft. She imagined the chilled night air ruffle her feathers. She wrapped an arm around the limping eagle, helping him to the bed. "You need to stay off that foot, Rill," she murmured, urging him to sit or lay down. "You're just going to open it back up." Rill was beside her in her vision, spreading his fascinating golden-brown wingspan, which was probably a fews times her own. It would be a lovely thing to fly again.

"Fine," Rill muttered, not wanting to go sit down. He looked over and saw the longing to fly in her eyes. Stretching his wings he asked, "would anybody really mind if we just went for a quick fly around, then came back? Nobody would really know after all..." He wanted to be out in the night sky, gliding around. In the sky was his territory.
